Advertisement Response

Yes I believe that advertising serves a purpose in our society. I think that ads are a way to get information out to the public from the companies that have a product that could be useful. Ads can also serve as a purpose for promoting a business that is having a sale by offering discounts through the advertisement. Other ads offer information about a product that may be useful in your home. Ads also serve as a way for companies to get their product(s) known if they are not a brand name. Some people argue that ads persuade people to buy things they don't need, well duh thats kind of the point of having an advertisement, which is to persuade people to buy their product. If people don't want to buy the product then the simple solution is to not buy the product. That is why I think advertising does serve a purpose in our society.

Back from Break

I didn't do a whole lot during my break. I just stayed at home and relaxed. Although we did help my dad finish his gun room in the basement. Thanksgiving wasn't too special this year because it was just me, my dad, my brother, my mom, and my grandpa, so it just felt like a Saturday. The only other thing I did was go to wrestling practices.

Free Write, Best Holiday Celebration

I think the best holiday celebration is during New Years. We normally have another family come over with their kids and we have a nice dinner with crab, shrimp, and other things. Its really fun because we stay up almost all night playing games and stuff. My favorite part is probably when we eat because I love seafood. Especially the shrimp. The crab is good but is a pain because it's king crab which has a lot of poky things on its shell.

Mandatory Community Service

No I do not agree with the schools making community service mandatory to graduate. I think that forcing students to do something that they don't want to do will not give great results because some students might do the job at the bare minimum, if that. They will only be learning to get hours of community service instead of actually feeling compassion for helping out in the community. Some students may also not have the time to perform such tasks because they are involved in many other extra-curricular activities throughout their high school years.

Why my dog is unusual

My dog is unusual because when he lays down he will lay on his stomach with his back legs sprawled out behind him. Its weird because I've never seen a dog do that before. He seems to be very comfortable when he does it too because he just sits there for awhile. When I'm laying on my bed sometimes he will jump up and just plop down with his stomach on my legs so his front part and back part of his body are on the bed but his stomach is on my legs. He's just a strange dog but he is also a good dog.

Invisible for One Day

If I was invisible for one day I would definitely have some fun with it. I would go around to different rooms during school and freak some people out. I would also go around to different people to see what they talk about. I'm not sure exactly what I'd do but I know I would have fun with it.

Encounter With the Barber

The original writing prompt said fictional but this is a true story that once happened to me several years ago. I needed a haircut one day while I was shopping with my dad and brother. We were in Cedar Rapids, just leaving Best Buy I believe. We decided to go to the Super Cuts right next door. We get in there and I'm the last one to get a hair cut between me, my brother, and my dad. I was getting my hair fairly short, like I normally do. The lady the was cutting my hair had a pair of clippers and was trimming around by my ears. I felt something hit the back of my ear, like something pinched it. I didn't pay too much attention to it. The girl continues trimming on the other ear and then looks back over and says, "Oh my god you're bleeding!" I was like really? I guess it was the clippers that pinched me. So she got a band aid for me and put it on and then gave me a card for a free hair cut for the next visit. Unfortunately for her I did not want to go back to that place after that experience. Ever since then I get nervous every time I get the hair around my ears trimmed with clippers.

Free Write, What I'd do on a Rainy Day

I would be excited if it was raining. I love it when it rains. I might go outside for a little bit just to enjoy it. I sometimes find myself sitting on the porch watching it rain otherwise inside near a window. I like the scent when it rains or after it rains. Everything looks pretty cool after it rains too. All the grass and trees are covered in water droplets and there's a low mist covering the valleys. I wish it would rain soon. I'd like to have another good downpour before it gets to cold to enjoy it.

Why not to eat fast food

Fast food isn't the greatest stuff for you to eat. A lot of people blame fast food chains for causing the rise in obesity in the United States. I once read this article about someone buying a Happy Meal from McDonald's and setting it out on her shelf and not touching it for a year. Turns out that the only changes to the food was the meat shrunk a little but and resembled a small hockey puck and the fries looked like they did the day they came out of the fryer. So do you really want your kids eating something like that?

Where I Go to Get Away

When I get frustrated I normally go into my room and lay down on my bed. I normally start listening to music and just sit there and think. Sometimes I may just go outside and find a place to sit. I'm glad I live out in the country, it's so much more peaceful than being in the city. I like being out in the woods, too. Especially sitting up in a tree stand or in the middle of a big field of tall grass. Those places are nice to go to if you feel like you need to escape. I wish I could go do that right now. I need some peace and quiet right now.

When I get older I would like to move to Minnesota. I would like to live on or near a lake. For several years I have gone up to Ely, Minnesota for an annual fishing trip with some friends. I always enjoy my time up there because of the people and because of the landscape. The lakes are beautiful and there are so many trees and forests. I like being isolated in the wilderness and country because there's so much more freedom than if you were to live in the city limits.

Find something in life that you love doing. If you make a lot of money, that's a bonus, and if you don't, you still won't hate going to work.
Jeff Foxworthy

I agree with this quote because most people complain that they hate their job because they don't enjoy it. I would like to have a job that I enjoy going to work everyday even if the pay isn't the best. Like the quote says if the pay is good, then that's a bonus, if not at least you have a job that you don't hate. Also it won't seem like you're wasting your life away by working at the same place over and over again.

Community Curfews

I believe that communities should not have curfews in effect. My reasoning is that some students have many extracurricular activities and do not have enough time to socialize. I think that it's up to the parents to decide whether or not they want their children to stay out past a certain time, not the community's. Even if there is a community curfew I don't think that it will encourage students to focus more on their homework than if there wasn't one. In today's society there are plenty of ways outside of personal contact to socialize with someone else.

Failure or Success?

I believe that failure can lead to success because your learn from your mistakes, most of the time anyways. I can name a time or two where I have failed and succeeding afterwards because I figured out what I had done wrong and was able to fix it. An example would be when you first learn to ride a bike. You start off with training wheels to get a feel of the bike. Later you learn to ride it without any training wheels, you most likely fall a few times before you finally get a hold of it.

ZOMBIE STRAND!!!

If Mrs. Strand was a zombie and tried to attack me I would dodge her first attempt then look around for anything that could be used as a weapon. Once I find something suitable to be a weapon, hopefully a stick of some sort, I'd hit her in the head until she was dead. If I had something that was more like a stabbing weapon such as the flag in the room then I'd stab her in the brain.

Five Year High School

I don't think that schools should extend their education to five years. I believe that fours years is enough because after you get out of high school you have another four or more years of college to look forward which is not the most appealing of things for high school graduates. Adding another year to high school just sounds like a waste of time to me. What's one more year of high school education going to do? College is there place where people go to learn how to do the job that they want to do, not high school.

Utopian World

My utopian world would be a place where there was eternal youth and there is no sickness or suffering in the world. I guess I kinda picture it as the world is today with a few minor changes. One change would be that everybody has common sense and aren't retarded when it comes to certain things, but you are still unique in your own way.
If one person was suffering just so my utopia could exist I'm not sure what I'd do. It depends on the suffering the person is dealing with and if its a good friend or someone that I just know. If it's someone that I just know then I might just let them suffer. Some people may think that I'm cruel for letting them suffer but then I'd tell them that without that person suffering then the life they are living wouldn't exist.

Goals for this school year.
I don't really have any goals for my classes this year as of now other than pass them. This year for sports I'd like to make it to state again for wrestling. Last year I had a fun time and it was a really cool experience to be wrestling down in Des Moines in Wells Fargo Arena. In Ag Projects I'm hoping that I'll be able to make something decent. I'm planning on making a fishing rod rack for my dad and hoping that it will turn out ok. I don't know what I'll end up making next semester. History is looking pretty promising this year because we get to learn about the world wars and other cool things.
